In the piece Territory by Muhammed Kaltuk, five dancers from his independent company MEK dance together with the ballet ensemble. In it, the Basel-based dancer explores the social aspects of territories. What are the consequences of the unwanted and violent invasion of a foreign territory? And how does it come about that an area is defined as a territory and a line as a border? In the geopolitical context, these questions are more topical than ever. Dealing with territorial integrity plays a major role in conflicts. But where does the human need for territories come from, what power and value structures play a role in this and what borders does each individual create for themselves? Based on a very personal approach to this major topic, Kaltuk builds bridges between hip-hop and classical dance, between the independent scene and the municipal theater.
